Getting to Devon Valley Estate

Located on a working wine farm in Stellenbosch, where some of the best wines in the world are produced, guests have the opportunity to sample some of these delights.

The Devon Valley Conference Venue can be located within the heart of the Devon Valley. It is a 33 minute drive from Cape Town International Airport and a 47 minute drive via the N1 or N2 to Central Cape Town.

En route to the establishment guests will be enchanted with views of wine farms, museums and culturally rich attractions. The Devon Valley Hotel is situated about 6 kilometres (3.7 miles) from the Stellenbosch city centre and approximately 12 kilometres from the famous Spier Estate.

Devon Valley is a new Ward within the Stellenbosch Wine of Origin. It lies to the west and alongside the village of Stellenbosch. Through it runs a tiny river, the Veldwachtersrivier, or Shepherds Creek, which joins up with the Eerste Rivier (First River). The valley is open to the south and demarcated by low hills on the other sides. Most of the vineyards are red.

Devon Valley has an enviable reputation, not only for the red wines that have been made here, but also as a source of premium grapes. Bertrams winery carried the flag for many years. More recently the valley has rapidly gained recognition as one of the world's premium red wine sites due to the efforts of Middelvlei, Louisvale, Clos Malverne, Devon Hill and Hidden Valley. Distell's sparkling wine house, J.C. le Roux, has also settled here.

The area also draws visitors to the charming Devon Valley Hotel, which markets its own wine called Sylvan Vale, made by Mark Carmichael-Green. Visitors can also stay at the Sugarbird Manor guesthouse.

The eight wine producers in the valley have recently formed the Devon Valley Vintners' Association. It's charter commits the members to practices that benefit the community, the environment and the quality of the valley's produce. All wineries that use grapes from the valley are entitled to label these as 'Wine of Origin Devon Valley'.
