Moshito Music Conference and Exhibition 2010

The seventh annual Moshito Music Conference and Exhibition will be held from 1 to 3 September 2010 at Museum Africa in Newtown Johannesburg. This year's conference theme is The Business of Music.
About Moshito Music Conference and ExhibitionThe music industry, both at a global and domestic level, is experiencing extraordinary transformation. Factors such as globalization, mergers and acquisitions, competition from traditionally non-music companies, and technological innovation are forcing companies to re-think and re-align their business strategies.
In this new environment companies are required to, amongst other things, create new revenue streams, tap into new markets, increase market share and cut down operational costs. Further, they are expected to cater to the ever-changing expectations and requirements of consumers who are increasingly better informed about their choices and are more demanding. This requires a constant attention to business strategies on the part of all members of the music industry, who must seek to build defendable competitive advantages.
This is where Moshito steps in. As the only music conference and exhibition in South Africa, the annual event makes its focus “the business of music”. Its programme is drawn up to provide credible business intelligence on pressing international and national issues, allowing members of the South African music industry to make informed business decisions.
As part of its commitment to industry unity and inclusivity, MOSHITO's membership consists of a number of key stakeholder organisations within the South African music industry. These are:
Association of Independent Record Companies (AIRCO)
Composers’ Association of South Africa (CASA)
Creative Workers’ Union of South Africa (CWUSA)
National Organisation for Reproduction Rights in Music in Southern Africa Limited (NORM)
South African Music Promoters Association (SAMPA)
Southern African Music Rights Organisation, Limited (SAMRO)
The Music Managers Forum of South Africa (MMFSA)
Moshito Music Conference 2010In addition, the number of music exhibitors for 2010 has grown beyond expectations, ensuring Moshito’s commitment to sharing of information, opening networking opportunities and taking the rhythm of the music business across Africa and beyond.
Adding substantially to Moshito 2010’s appeal are the live showcases and fringe events at Museum Africa and in the Newtown precinct. These are an integral part of Moshito and serve as a powerful reminder of why finding solutions to the music industry’s most challenging issues, is so important.
The pillars of discussion at this year’s Moshito conference are:
Technology
New Markets
Industry Challenges (e.g. Piracy)
Live Music
Socio-Economic Development
